Day 6 of 21 Days of Prayer. Woke and Not Afraid. Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God’s wrath comes on those who are disobedient. It is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret. But everything exposed by the light becomes visible—and everything that is illuminated becomes a light. This is why it is said: “WAKE UP, sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.” (Ephesians 5:6, 12-14 NIV)
It's funny how quickly "empty words" can put you to sleep. You hear something that appeals to your curiosity, wakes your humanity, stirs up one or two debates and next thing you know, spiritual sleep has set in. But it's time to wake up!
God is speaking in this season but few people are listening. Spiritual sleep leaves you unprepared, vulnerable to attack and exposed to the consequences of disobedience. The Lord is warning us about vain philosophy, human desire and the rudiments of the world. Those notions speak so loudly that sometimes our hearts become overwhelmed so that we can't hear what God is speaking. But it's time to wake up!
Maybe you don't want to believe it, but you really do have a spiritual enemy. His game is to push you with human desire and weigh you down with intellectual thoughts, until you become lethargic and so mentally drained that you stop trying to live by faith. Some might say there's no devil and therefore there's no God. But how can you be certain about that? If you are wrong, one can only hope that you have enogh sense to be afraid. Truth is - that kind of thinking is a technique designed to deceive you.
Think on this: Hebrews 11:6 says, "But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him."
Are you woke yet?
Heavenly Father, we pray for alertness and wise counsel. Guide our hearts and minds away from the empty words of the world, the flesh and the devil. I hear Your voice calling me to wake up, arise from sleep and position myself so Christ can give me light. Make me a light to illuminate my surroundings ~ to give peace to the restless and show love to the unlovable. I am awake and not afraid. In Jesus name, Amen!
