A Single Step

Updated: Apr 5, 2020

Many of us at one time or the other have started journeys that we did not finish. Have you ever started a diet and did not finish? Maybe you decided to get a degree but life weighed you down until you dropped out of the program. As a result, you were left feeling discouraged and frustrated because the change you wanted did not happen. This unfinished business has become a burden, but you are not defeated. You have what it takes to overcome burdens. You have what it takes to change your circumstances. It begins with moving forward and a mindset to finish what you start. Sometimes the path to success is not gigantic steps but one step at a time.

"Every journey begins with a single step."

Maya Angelou

Now, imagine achieving your goals in 2017 one step at a time. Each day, each step, each thought, every day gets you closer to your goal. It can be challenging but you can win. Scottish writer Samuel Smiles once said, "Hope is like the sun, which, as we journey toward it, casts the shadow of our burden behind us." The key to finishing a journey is to keep moving forward with your eyes on the finish line. Every step you take toward your goal is progress. And it doesn't matter if your progress is large or small. As long as you have the mindset to stick to the journey, you're making progress because every step forward is a shadow cast on your burdens. Set your mind on the finish line. Think about how you will feel once you reach your goal. Allow the enthusiasm to eliminate burdens. Allow motivation to keep you on your journey leaving your burdens behind. It's time to move forward making unfinished business finished business.

OUR PRAYER

Heavenly Father, thank you for your promises and the support of the Holy Spirit. When I get weary, I will turn to you for strength. When holding on gets tough, I will cast myself into your arms. When I hear things that discourage me, I will listen to your voice. I ask you to surround me with favor and encouragement so that I can remain steadfast on this journey of change. I believe in due season I shall reap if I do not give up, faint, or quit (Galatians 6:9). Thank you for anointing me to move forward one step at a time until I finish what I've started. In Jesus's name, Amen!
