Make Room for the New

Updated: Apr 5, 2020

On Day 3 of 21 Days of Prayer, new things are one decision from becoming your new reality! But you must get rid of the old and make room for the new. We are praying for 21 days in the new year to gain strength and momentum to break free of the things that hold us down. Let go of the past. Let go of last year. Now, take hold of the future. Anticipate it! Take hold of the new year and new things to come. Others have done it and you can too!

Hebrews 12:1 is an exhortation to us. It says, "As for us, we have this large crowd of witnesses around us. So then, let us rid ourselves of everything that gets in the way, and of the sin which holds on to us so tightly, and let us run with determination the race that lies before us." Notice, it's not always sin that holds us back, but there things that get in our way. They are weights that slow us down until we get tired and eventually quit.

To achieve our goals, we are instructed to make a decision to lay them aside or get rid of them. Can you do that? Of course you can but you must choose. This scripture also says there are certain sins that hold on to us tightly! In other words, you know you're into some things that are wrong, you need to be free of them, but you're not. These sins are in the way of your freedom, your breakthrough or your peace. Again, you must choose to get rid of the sin that easily gets you off track. You're weak when it comes to this and it will not let you go.

2 Corinthians 5:17 says you need a transformation... "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!" How badly do you want the new? That really is the question. Will you make room for the new or just settle for more of the same by giving in to the pull of sin that holds you back? The new will come when you make room for it!

Pray: Father in heaven, today I ask You to be Lord of my life. Give me the will and thirst for the new that you have planned for my life. I lay aside the oldness of 2016 and run with in newness of 2017. Please make Hebrews 12:1 and 2 Corinthians 5:17 a reality in my life. I will make the time to meditate on those passages. I accept the wisdom and guidance you are giving me from them and throughout the Bible. I will make room for the new me by making time for you. I am holding on to your promise in Isaiah 43:19, which says, "Watch for the new thing I am going to do. It is happening already — you can see it now! I will make a road through the wilderness and give you streams of water there." Therefore, I will watch for the new thing that you have prepared to appear in my life. I have made the decision to do my part by laying aside the weight and the sin that has been getting in the way of the new adventures in store for me. I am a new creation each and every day. The old is passed away and I am new. I am thankful and walk in newness of life in Christ! In Jesus's name, Amen!
