The Principle Thing

Welcome to day 37 of our 40 day countdown to Easter 2019! The Principal Thing. "Wisdom is the principle thing, therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding"  Proverbs 4:7

There was a king who enjoyed playing chess.  Often he would challenge visitors to play and most of the time, he would win.  One day a traveling wise man visited the kingdom. When the king challenged him to a game, he wasn't interested. So the king offered to give him whatever reward he asked if he won.  When the king lost the game, he honored his word by asking the wise man what prize he would like. The wise man asked for one grain of rice to be placed on the first square of the chessboard and then for it to be doubled on each following square.  The impact was enormous!  One, two, four, eight and by the 21st square, there would be more than a million grains of rice needed. By the 31st square, it would be more than a billion and still, less than half the board would be covered.

While the request of the wise man would be impossible, the king learned an incredible lesson about life through playing chess ~ every small decision the wise man made, had a big impact when they were added together!

The same is true for all of us.  The kind of life we have depends on the kind of decisions we make. Every day, we make a series of decisions that, whether we realize it or not, are coming together to form what we commonly consider to be "life as we know it".  We should never take the choices we make for granted.  Regardless of how small it may seem to us, those choices are shaping our lives. And the more we add to them, the bigger the collective impact will be.  Today, be very careful about the decisions you make.

The key to all of this is to make wise moves.  Be wise, win the match by seeking God's wisdom for every move you make.  That's why wisdom is supreme.  Today's passage says it is "the principal thing" because it is your base multiplier.  No amount of power, prestige or position outranks the value of gaining Godly wisdom.  When you add Godly virtue to your wisdom and understanding, you will find peace that passes understanding.  (Phil 4:7)

LET’S PRAY…

Heavenly Father, I ask you to give me wisdom in my marriage. I seek you for wisdom in rearing my children, wisdom in the workplace, wisdom in making business decisions, wisdom to develop the next plan, and wisdom to execute the plan. Holy Spirit, help me to have wisdom in my thinker, chooser, and doer. Grant me wisdom in my finances, wisdom in my giving, and wisdom in my conversations. I decree and declare that wisdom is in principle thing in my life. Wisdom is my base multiplier. I walk in wisdom, stature, favor with God, and favor with man, in the name of Jesus, amen.
