Fresh HOPE

Wednesday, January 18, 2017

Sometimes in life you will feel so low that you have to look up to touch bottom. No matter how hard you try, doors are closed in your face. The dishwasher breaks. The children are “cutting up”. The waste management truck rolls over your garbage can. Your wife gets a flat tire on the interstate while you’re at work. Your boss’s answer is always “No”. You never get employee of the month. Your husband thinks you’re too fat but he looks like he’s six months pregnant and never plans to deliver. To top it off, the IRS is on your tail because your health plan did not meet minimum standards. You are emotionally drained. You need fresh hope. Fresh hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls. It leads us through the curtain into God's inner sanctuary (Hebrews 6 19). We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. Hope gives us the emotional strength to fight for holiness in our lives.

A Reservoir of Emotional Strength

You see, fresh hope is a reservoir of emotional strength charged by the hydro-electric generators called the fruit of the spirit that dwells in the Hoover Dam of your soul ready to release new power for the glory of God. Hope gives us the emotional strength to fight for our marriages with love. Hope gives us the emotional strength to speak with kindness when we have been offended. Hope gives us the emotional strength to stay at peace when life becomes a ruckus. Hope gives us the emotional strength to fight another day. Fresh hope is sure, steadfast, unmovable, and unshakable. Fresh hope is a confident expectation and desire for something good in the future (Psalm 42:11) because fresh hope is an anchor that does not drag.

Father, I look to you today to release fresh hope, emotional strength in my life by the power of the Holy Spirit. I ask for the emotional strength to fight another day. Ignite in me fresh hope that is the anchor of my soul, an anchor that is firm, secure, and does not drag, in the name of Jesus. Amen.
