DETOURS LEAD TO DESTINY

Sunday, January 15, 2017

When life presents a detour, it means something is being fixed, corrected, or improved. Something is happening on the other side in preparation of your ultimate destiny. Today, I want to help you understand why you need to take the detour because your destiny depends on it. A detour means God wants to remove you from something that’s broken. A detour means God wants to take you away from something that’s damaged. A detour means God wants to separate you from something that’s not fully developed. Detours are inconvenient. Detours make you lose time, so you think. Detours take you out of the way. Detours make you take longer to reach your destination. Detours are created for you to develop your character so that when you arrive to your destination you are fully developed.

The purpose of the detour is to develop you personally, professionally, and spiritually. The purpose of the detour is to move you from deadwood to plywood. Life without purpose is like deadwood; words without inspiration; passion without conviction; and purpose without vision. As deadwood, you’re floating but empty. God would rather have us as plywood than deadwood any day. Because God can take us at our lowest state, just like a plank of low-grade wood and glue them together to make them stronger. A single plywood plank is breakable but glued together they are unbreakable. While you’re on the detour, God is using one experience and placing it on top of another experience to make you unbreakable. So that when you arrive to your destination you are fully developed. You are better off plywood than deadwood. The detour is sometimes part of the process God takes us through so that we can fully develop.

Your development is more important than your arrival.

While you’re on the detours, God will refocus, re-brand, rebuild, redesign, reorganize, reconnect, re-center, and redirect you because God wants you fully developed. So, during your detours to destiny, trust the process. Humble yourself to the process. Cooperate with the process. Humble yourself to God’s purpose for your life. And, have faith to arrive fully developed. The purpose of the detour is develop your character so that wherever your gifts take you, your character will keep you. You will arrive fully developed. And, your development is more important than your arrival.

“I know what I’m doing. I have it all planned out—plans to take care of you, not abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for (Jeremiah 29:11MSG) .”

Our Prayer:  Lord, grant me the strength to trust your process while I'm on the detour to destiny. I desire to arrive to my destiny fully developed just as you desire for me. I understand now that my development is more important than my arrival. Thank you for gluing my experiences together to make me unbreakable. Thank you that I have a future and hope, in the name of Jesus. Amen!
